except for 要不是
except 除了
二者区别： 从形式上看，except后面不仅可以接短语，还可以接that引导的从句，而except for后面只能接名词短语。

从内容上看，except表示“同类中除此以外”而except for则是“不同类中的除此以外”如：

We all went to the park except Mary.

除Mary外我们都去公园了。

其中，we与Mary是同类比较

Your composition is good except for the handwriting.

除字迹以外，你的作文很不错。

其中，composition 与handwriting是不同类比较

It will do except that it is too long.

这行，只是太长了一些。

apart from 有两种意思：
1、除了（某事物）以外……都……；除去
这种用法中，apart from后面接的事物是主语的一部分

例：Apart from the kitchen, the house is great.
这间房子除了厨房外，哪儿都好。
（厨房是这间房子的一部分）

2、除了（某事物）以外……也,还； 不止
这种用法中，apart from后面接的事物与主语是并列的，或者所接的事件与主句所描述的事件是并列的。

例：Apart from Kelly, Joy will go to swim tomorrow.
除了Kelly外，Joy明天也会去游泳。
（kelly 与Joy是并列的事物，kelly不是Joy的一部分。）

Apart from singing a song, he told a joke.
除了唱歌外，他还讲了一个笑话。
